Are you an Idolator?
Well, I have a confession to make. I do not watch a whole lot of television to begin with, but these last two weeks I have not missed any of the audition shows for American Idol. Granted, I tune in to watch someone make a complete idiot of themselves and/or to hear Simon totally insult someone, but still, I’m embarassed to admit that I do enjoy watching it. Am I alone?

Okay, let’s all make fun of Darren… No, I’d like to hear who all will fess up, actually. I can’t do it. I’m not gonna say I haven’t seen it, but it wasn’t by my choosing… I will say that I prefer Paula Abdul dancing w/ cartoon cats, and that the black guy needs a beating. The british guy can come or go. Whatever.
The only good thing to come out of American Monkey is one Wm Hung.
& for the record, this would definitely classify as a guilty pleasure, but we’ll leave it here as its own thread I guess…
the onley good thing to come out of american idol is carrie underwood and a brief segment of triumph the comic dog.
other than that it is a show that lets us watch other people have their dreams crushed, dreams that should be crushed, just not for entertainment.
She’s pretty easy on the eye, Kev. I’m willing to bet I’d hate her music though…
I don’t think anyone should be embarassed for watching American Idol. Those who make fun are those who can’t sing. Plus you all know you are in love with Simon Cowell. Sarcastic guys rule!!! :-)
I know I cannot sing worth crap, but then again, I don’t make fun of the show, so I guess I’m ok then.
Which, for the record, I’ve still been hooked on it this week.
Ok answer me this. What is up with the old dude with grey hair? I thought there was an age limit on that show. And seriously..the I can’t dance for shizzle but last nights dance he attempted to do….that was just embarassing. I had to cover my dogs eyes just so she wouldn’t be scared for life :-)
Dancing for shizzle is pretty tough, but the dude is only in his upper 20s/low 30s believe it or not. When he was auditioning, they asked him about his hair and he’s been gray since he was real young. I guess he has Martin’s Disease (Steve Martin). He doesn’t have a bad Blues voice though, even though he’s white.
I think the bald rocker dude is going to take the cake for the guys. Chicken Little is toast come next week. The cuteness just isn’t going to do it for him for very much longer.
Yeah I am tellin ya the dancing for shizzle can only happen by the miracle of really good drinks :-)
So seriously the old dude isn’t old? I made fun of someone with a disease? Hopefully you are making up that disease otherwise I am sounding like a real idiot. Then again…nothing new
I TOTALLY agree about the shaved head guy. He should definitely be in the top 5. Who cares if he can sing..just stand there and look that good. :-)
Ummm….the disease thing was totally made up. I just know Steve Martin has had gray hair ever since I was little and so he reminded me of him. You must understand, I am the Balderdash champion. Bill can testify to that.
I can’t sing. I’ll admit that, & being a musician, I hate it. That has nothing to do w/ it though. American Idol is just a big monkey show. See, give me some sort of singing competition. That’s fine. I have a problem with how much the performance & apprearance come into play though.
Commenting to Darren: Ok..well then I feel pretty stupid. And to make it worse..what is Balderdash. Sorry..could look it up but that is just way too much effort. Jeez I feel like a stupid girl.
Commenting to Bill: I agree that they judge more on the look of the performer and performance…but if you think about it that is how the world does. It’s just a realistic way of thinking. Most people prefer Dr. McDreamy(A Grey’s Anatomy word) to a Steve Erkle. Not saying it’s right, but it is reality.
Ok..not than anyone other than Darren and I are watching Idol but since I am still annoyed here goes a ranting post.
Why on earth did Katherine make it in the bottom two last night when you have people like Bucky who by the name alone should just go home. Seriously, his song…couldn’t understand a word of it. I think the country people should stay off American Idol and go to Hicktown Idol. I swear if they send my Chris home before Bucky, Paris or the annoying chick that is even more hick than the typical Marysvillian (Yes I can make fun of Marysville..I grew up there) then I am never watching that show again.
The moral of todays story kids is: Never post when you are in a bad mood :-)
At this point, they should just give a consolation prize to everyone except Chris, Taylor, and Mandisa. Then, those three should just fight it out in a cage somewhere.
I somewhat agree with you. As stated MANY times I absolutely love Chris. I don’t usually listen to his kind of music…but he does it well. I think Mandesa is more for the christian music world. It’s nothing to do with looks…but if you are going to sing christian music..don’t do it on idol. Now for Taylor…I can’t say he is the next american idol. I think he is more for the ladies over 40. I only say that because anyone I talk to that is older than me likes him. I think Katherine is pretty good too. But if I have to hear that Pickler chick even speak one more time I will heave.
ok. there went my soapbox for the day
Ok feel free to yell at me for this post but is it just me or are to good ones getting sucky and the sucky ones getting better? If you are a follower of the show you know they had country night last night. Correct me if I am wrong but isn’t that Nashville Star or whatever that show is for? So ok..the hick singers like Kelly & Bucky had an ok night..even though their voices still bring puke up in my throat :-) But poor Chris!!!! Not only did the poor guy take a song I used to love and kill it, he totally moved down my list of hot guys. It was so bad last night that I can actually say Taylor did ok. Am I the only one that feels this way? That is a whole hour of my life I can’t get back.
Last night was a typical example of what Americans view as the “worst” performance. Ace got kicked off, basically because, in my own opinion he just plain sucks. But really, if we were going by the performance for this week and not looks….like we’re supposed to do…Pickler would’ve been gone. I mean, how do you totally flub up a song by not getting the words right with the beat and not get voted off? One word…..beauty. I guarantee she is still in the running because she’s pretty. Not that I am complaining..I won’t mind looking at her for a few more weeks, its just the principle.
And conversely, this is why Mandisa got voted off. She’s not mainstream, but she could outsing almost everyone except Taylor and Chris Dougherty.
But like Simon reminds us, he’s not there to find the best person, he’s looking for someone he can sell. Given Brittney Spears, it’s obvious that Kelly could be sold to the masses and make lots of money. She should probably even win, because that’s what the goal of the show is to provide.
Not that I’ve seen the show this week — stupid satellite dish is out of whack and tomorrow is the first opening for the tech to come look at it. Stupid TV.
You mean Ace was still there as of last night? (Haven’t watched in awhile) I agree that he needed to go but come on…Pickler just sucks.!.!.! Sure she is pretty but she is so dumb. Grant it my elevator sometimes stops short of my floor but can someone REALLY be that dumb? And do guys really find that attractive? Would you all buy a cd just because she is pretty?
I was shocked to hear that Chris was in the bottom three.
So this is must my opinion, but I figure Katherine is the next to go. Sadly enough though if they start voting or keep voting on looks Taylor will probably miss out on the top three too. And that’s sad
who was the one telling the queen guy to change his song around?? that guy is an idiot.
(for the record i watched it on a show that was not named american idol)
I saw a rerun of that episode (of The Soup, not AI) & got to hear it better this time. Yeah, that guy is an idiot. Poor Queen. Pissed it all away on drugs & boys. Now you gotta resort to this…
Ah, that would be “Ace” that got voted off this week. Did you see the reaction of the Queen guy? You could tell he was ticked off at him.
For the record, I love AI – go Taylor.
I wouldn’t say “Poor Queen” just yet. They’re going to cash in big time for that AI appearance (along w/ Shakira, Stevie Wonder, Kenny Rodgers, Rod Steward, Barry Mannilow, et al.)
Ok, so Chris got voted off tonight, which was a huge surprise. Actually, I think it was a big mistake, b/c he is far better than some of the others, yet I was glad to see something unexpected like that tonight. Everyone pretty much had banked on him winning the whole thing. You could tell he was shocked. And of course, Paula cried…but then again, I think she was drunk..again.
I refuse to comment on the vote off of Chris due to the fact …there may be tears hahaha!
I guess I am going to have to jump on the Taylor Bandwagon. Now…if Taylor goes before Katherine…..I am starting my own anti-idol website :-)
On the one hand, it’s hard to see Chris lose to the other four.
On the other hand, it’s not like we wanted him to be a pop idol or anything. Maybe now he is well-known enough (but not POP enough) to get a gig as lead singer for a good group.
I was reading today that Chris got an offer to sing lead for the band Fuel. That would be awesome since I love the band and he did an awesome job when he sang their song. However, he is stuck in the American Idol contract for I think at least a year. So guess we will see. That has been my American Idol update for today :-)
So the finally was last night. I caught a little bit of it. I thought it was pretty decent besides a few sucky performances (Meatloaf & Katherine..but not a big fan of either one) I am sure most of you will disagree but I was glad Taylor won. While I still think that guy is not American Idol material I would still buy his cd…FOR MY MOM! :-)
I actually geeked out enough to buy this seasons’s CD. Not too bad. I probalby wouldn’t buy it unless you REALLY digged ALL of the Idols.
A funny way of looking at things. They claim that their 310,000 visitors pushed the votes a couple times in some of the closer races.
I haven’t been feeling well lately, so I sat my butt down and watched the whole two hours of it last night. It was actually pretty good. I’ve always liked Meatloaf’s songs, but I must say, he SUCKED last night. That duet with McPhee “All Coming Back to Me Now” was horrible. She sounded good as always, but Meatloaf couldn’t hold a tune. He just looked bad period. It was pretty cool seeing the different celebrity singers they were able to get to sing on the show last night. I’ve never been much of a fan, but it was pretty cool seeing Prince (or, The Artist Formerly Known As Prince?) perform.
Sorry to hear you are sick. I am sure that Meatloaf’s performance put you over the edge. I couldn’t agree with you more on the Meatloaf/McPhee performance. I think I read somewhere that he had recently had a heart attack or stroke. AI should have had someone else instead. I myself wasn’t too thrilled with Prince (or whatever he goes by now) And sadly enough I didn’t care for Chris’s performance with the band LIVE. I absolutely love the band but didn’t last night.
I could be overly judgemental..I have 4 finals this week …so feel free to yell at me for misjudging :-)
So, American Idol ‘07. Why haven’t we talked about what is on everybody’s minds right now? I know what you’re all thinking, the men this year can’t hold a candle to the ladies. But hey, we must be fair and give them all a chance. And for anyone who wants to pretend they watch the show when everyone at the office is talking about it, just say something like “I think that the men were a little too pitchy for me” or “That sly little Simon, who gives him his material?”. And for contestants who will make it to the end, give a shout out for Melinda Dolittle, the humble backgroud singer (ironic how her name is the same as that of the girl in Pygmallion).
Alrighty then, someone else come out of the woodwork and admit that they are addicted to the show as much as I am… C’mon Mighty Posiedon, Lady of the Sea… don’t leave me hangin’…
I joined the AI later in the season this time. I was SHOCKED at the people they voted off. What the heck? I honestly can’t say I would vote for any of the contestants this season. I like the rocker chick but she is not THAT good. The Doolittle chick(see told you I joined late..don’t remember their names) is ok..but needs to gain some confidence.
So I honestly don’t know who I am backing yet. No one ever compare to my Chris Daughtry :-)
A prayer:
Dear Lord, in your mercy, please strike down anyone who uses uses that “yo factor” catch phrase the black American Idol judge started.
Amen to that.
I hate American Idol.
I hate pop music.
All I can say good about it is Kelly Clarkson “#4 hottie on all time list”
There is a good list to start Bill. An all time Hotties list. I have mine already prepared so I will look for it, if it is forthcoming.
You just didn’t look hard enough, Harv. It’s one of the most viewed threads on the site. What’s changed on my list is Jenna Fischer (Pam, from The Office) is now officially on my list, & in a very high spot…
First it was Indian call centers, then a snarky Web site, but now there’s a new theory to explain the improbable American Idol sauces of Sanjaya Malakar: Howard Stern.
A friend from work and I were discussing the infamous Sanjaya from Idol when she said that Howard Stern dared all his listeners to call in and vote for him to ruin the show. So This is why I have been so pissed at America lately:
There is a sight out there vote for the worst http://www.votefortheworst.com/
that is encouraging it too. It’s sad when the people that aren’t interested in the show ruin it for people who generally enjoy watching that sort of thing.
I’ve been in on VFTW since last year, when Taylor won “because” of them. I’m also not a “pop” music fan, but my wife likes it so we enjoy spending time picking out the “sleepers” of the competition. And last year, I liked what the site was doing, partly because I’m NOT a fan of pop music. But this year, I like the site for a whole different reason.
Yes, there is a lot of animosity in the site, but there’s a bit of good coming from it, too. Essentially, this guy (dave) is just one fan getting other fans to vote his way. It is, at the core, not very different from if Sanjaya had a fan club. The only real difference is that he picks up on something snarky and also exploits a weakness of the show.
It’s painfully obvious (William Hung) that the show does not put through only good people for America to vote on. A friend of mine went to Atlanta auditions a few years ago, and she was given about 5 seconds. She never made the stage of the audition where she performed in front of Randy and the rest of the Dawgs. A deaf mute could have discerned that she was better than William Hung. Not necessarily Idol-winning material, but an excellent vocalist.
The producers set it up such that the good and the bad will be side by side. I think they (rightfully) have little faith that America could pick one excellent performer out of 10 excellent performers. We have an easier time discerning 1 excellent performer out of 3, with 7 or so mediocre-to-poor performers along the way. But they sell the show as if these 10 are the best 10 they could find. VFTW.com cries foul, and I appreciate that.
I usually skip the awful “audition” round, but I enjoy having new talent audition in front of me and finding good artists. I’ll probably watch for Chris Sligh and see if his band goes someplace. Who knows, perhaps he’ll be involved in the next big Christian rock group. That’s good to know. My wife and I both appreciate Chris Daughtry. We’re glad he didn’t win, his success despite that is refreshing. But there is no reason why people like Haley Scarnato or Sanjaya Malakar should still be around. Neither have been good, and out of 10,000s of auditioners, I have no reason to expect that they couldn’t have pulled out 10 or 20 or 30 Melindas, Blakes, or LaKisha’s. But that’s not how the show works.
I’ve never voted for anyone on American Idol, though I do hope Blake does very well in his career. But I think we all benefit if VFTW convinces the judges to put through better people next year. Why should I settle for watching an hour or two free concert each week with one or 2 good performers, when I can convince Fox to let me see 10 or 20 good performers, for free, on my TV? VFTW makes an OK product better.
I have to mock the absoluteness of this sentence, the implication that even I and others who have no interest in AI will somehow be blessed if the show is handled better rather than if it crashes and burns in the ratings and never soils my TV again…
Here’s what’s good about AI: the band. I was telling Mary this the other day: most of these people will never play with a band like that again, as they will never have the funds backing their performances. I don’t like the show, the songs, the people involved, but I will admit that they have a very top notch house band, as well they should w/ all the money involved in that machine. The few that go on will prob be supported by a comparable band at times, at least during their possibly brief heyday, but for everyone else, that is literally the best they will ever sound outside of a studio (even then assuming they can secure some high quality studio players). To sing a custom-arranged cover live with that band, even to an empty room, is the biggest thing that will ever happen to the vast majority of those final cut contestants.
The show will never appeal to me b/c it is geared toward the popular American music market, which I don’t care for. What’s going to happen if a contestant only focuses on quality, below-the-radar music? How will Paula Abdul know if she should stand and clap to it? The one muppet-looking kid does a DC Talk tune & all you hear is “what a terrible song.” No, it wasn’t a terrible song (certainly not one of DCT’s best though), and in comparison anyone could sing it better than Michael Tait. But it would be impossible to win that competition and maintain some musical dignity. I mean, some of the theme weeks they do? I haven’t seen enough of these to have a ton of examples, but Gwen Steffani week? Are you serious? America, will you idolize me if I can do some sort of Grease number with my fellow contestants and pretend I like it? The cost is only your soul, you unique AI hopefuls.
Well now that you’ve mocked us, you won’t be helped. We’ll specifically withhold our blessing from you, while the rest of the country will enter into nirvanic bliss.
Clearly the “we all” was not directed at you, the “house” music scene, starving kids in Africa, or the French. For the rest of the world that appreciates when good singers sing good songs well, there is room for improvement. “We” could use more good singers, more good songs, and more good singing. But at the moment, via DVR, it’s not half bad.
Pop music stinks.
Paula is old.
Simon isn’t funny anymore.
It actually causes me pain to watch and/or hear.
If you are looking for quality songs and singing skills, I have to ask, why are you watching this dreadful show.
Not a single person (outside of Kelly Clarkson (#4 hottie)) has ever done anything after winning. It appears that the losers actually do better. (Aiken, Daughtery)
I hear Carrie Underwood is doing well, but come on. Country is painful to listen to.
Just to restate my position: I’m not a fan of American Idol, or pop music, but they do have (few) good qualities. VFTW could enhance those qualities. As a side effect, VFTW aggravates the producers, judges and fans of AI, who think that it is the best thing since sliced bread. So it can enhance the good and needle the bad. A win-win.
If a show gets on network TV that primarily highlights music in the style that I listen to, I’d spend my time there instead.
Not sure if this goes better here or in the Bull Shirt thread…
Here’s a real nerd gem (apologies, this guy has REALLY decided to capitalize on the AI frenzy, and his site is FULL of ads)
Some nerd wrote software to dial for your favorite idol, and count the busy signals when you get rejected. He then reports your number of successful calls, your number of rejected calls, and the number you dialed. This is tallied, analyzed, and using reports from clients all over the country during the 2 hour voting window predicts which idols are Safe and which are in danger of being voted off.
His theory, which seems to have worked for the last two seasons, is that the winningest idols are receiving the most calls during the window. Therefore, counting the busy signals and adjusting for call frequency, he can predict where the most votes are going. If you can always get through when dialing for an idol, that’s a bad sign. If you can never get through, that’s a good sign.
His stats apparently let him make reasonable guesses for who is in the bottom three! That’s some good accuracy (100% accurate over the last few weeks, except this week’s vote, which was apparently quite close), and the real reason why I posted this. I’ve never voted, and I never will vote, but the lengths to which some will take their obsession (and apply programming and math skills) really amaze me.
If there was any doubt that electronic voting for real elections (aka Presidential) were ever a security risk, rest assured — there will always be some nerd out there trying to influence or predict the outcome via side channel attacks.
Finally, Sanjaya is gone! I feel like I can breathe. He’s kind of that little weasel kid that annoys everybody.
sayonara sanjaya
that is what i woudl have said if i were a judge. i haven’t watched idol ever but i know sanjaya is apparently very effiminate and apparently not a good singer. with crazy hair.
and i think i heard his sister has a sex tape.
I said:
Last night is a prime example of why I watch this show. My DVR has very few things saved. 2 of 3 are Blake Lewis performances. His rendition of the Zombies “Time of the Season” and last night’s Bon Jovi “Shot through the Heart” are incredible. I went looking, and it seems he’s already been semi-pro, opening for acts local to Seattle as “bshorty”. He’s even credited on 2 tracks of a beatbox album that’s on Amazon someplace.
I could care less about the show, it’s drama, etc. But I will be picking up Lewis/bshorty for my music collection. If you know of other artists (prolly like Rozelle or whatever) that are similar in style, I’d be glad to hear it. This is good stuff.
Please, I got tired of hearing Blake Lewis even before he sang the Zombies during 60’s week. So when he actually sang “Time of the Season”, he had a lot going against him in my book. Who could take listening to the “bee-bop” for an entire cd let alone one 30 second song. And “time of the season” was close to a masterpiece the first time it was done. The Zombies have their own sound that can never be matched. And the tuxedo tee shirt is so 10 years ago….
Well, since no one has posted on how much of a drag the finale was… ‘er goes. It sucked. I’ve said my peace. The only person worth mentioning is Tony Bennet, I can’t get enough of cute old people.:-)
I’m almost resolved never to watch the show ever again…almost. Although there is that craving to hear what Simon will say next, like an itch. The more I think about the first few weeks of this last season, the more it seems fake and played out.
I’d like to turn this thread into possibly another topic, like if you were on American Idol, what would you sing? I guess also what are you favorite karaoke tunes? And what are the worst karaoke performances you’ve ever seen?
I can start by saying there are three “worst performance”s that I have had the misfortune of enduring.
3. guy in business suit singing way to loudly “My Way” the worst Sinatra song ever
2. two college boys singing to each other affectionately and sickeningly “I can show you the world” from Aladdin.
1. My favorite person at Mickey’s bar on 5th, Postal Gary, singing his melancholy rendition of “Sweet Caroline”, dragging and slurring each note out as long as possible while crying into his beer. (it was hilarious)
Mary, I think you should get us started here, since you’re the only person I know to get notes on your door telling you to stop singing so loud…
I’d sing “My Ding-a-ling.”
(song at about 3:08)
You touch my tralala.
My ding ding dong.
Is it sad that I’ve pondered what my song would be if I auditioned? I think it probably is… but singing by yourself in a car for a good chunk of the DC-Columbus commute is apparently long enough to convince yourself of your madd skillz…
sigh. I need a hobby.
So you’re really gonna come this far and then not tell us what song you would sing?
yes.
well, i’ll give a short list here for starters:
Breakaway – Kelly Clarkson
First Cut is the Deepest – Sheryl Crow
Still the One – Shania Twain
It’s Raining Men – The Weather Girls
Adia – Sarah Mclachlan
We’ll be Together – The Supremes
I will admit that a Kelly Clarkson song or two and maybe a Shania Twain song may have made the short list… not those in particular.. but kudos. Also, while it did not make the short list, “First Cut is the Deepest” is a favorite car sing along (uhm.. and by sing along I mean me… singing.. along.. to myself…)
Also making the “fun songs to sing at the top of your lung while no one is watching” list are Mindy MCready- Guys Do It All the Time and She Daisy- Little Goodbyes. I am not a country fan and those are many years old, but never-the-less.. fun to belt.
I am amiss because my favorite songs as of late are sung by boys and out of my register. sad.
Mink, help me with potential audition songs… I”m tempted to go Broadway as well…
(Mary, do you dig Broadway?)
Bring on the Men- J & H (fo sho)
When I Look at You- Scarlet Pimp (as I like to call it)
No Man Left For Me- Will Rogers
OOh.. not Broadways but standards..
Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered
I Wish I Were in Love Again
Peel Me a Grape (I might pay someone if they would let me perform it while lying on a piano… do you still have your boa?)
Love standards… Anything Nate King Cole or Ella Fitzgerald
At Last – Etta James (every girl loves this song)
Ok so it’s not American Idol but I DVR’d some show about Karoake where they have to finish the line of the song. I don’t know about anyone else but it was a total waste of space. However…Joey Fat-one was sorta amusing!
Anyone else watch it?
I’m bummed to hear it was bad. I thought this was the perfect game show for Julie!
I watched the rest about an hour after taking a Lunesta…it was better then :-)
When is it on? I’ve heard a handful of different people talk about it… maybe I can talk my brother into signing up for it. I”m pretty good with that stuff.. but he’s the ‘lyrical gangsta’
($1.00 for anyone who can link that to a song… I suppose it could be in more than one… so make sure it’s the one I’m thinking of =)
Yeah, I have that song on my iTunes…
For some reason I was thinking Ice Ice Baby…just heard that in the car and sadly I realized I know it verbatim
ok so there is TWO karoake game shows. I am watching one tonight and the girl bites big time…but everyone knows that sucky karoakers are fun. It’s like watching people fall down :-)
So American Idol started up again this week. I haven’t watched it for a a couple seasons but I have nothing to do this week so I figured why not. I figured I should get Darren’s thread started again.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zY8N5sdrEf8
Do I wish they would have said ‘Jesus?’ Yes. Am I glad that by the providential hand of the Lord they sang “Shout to the Lord?” Oh, yes!
And I pray in Jesus’ name that the Holy Spirit will do a mighty work in our nation…that those words that were sung – “Mountains bow down and the seas will roar at the sound of Your name! I sing for joy at the work of Your hands! Forever I’ll love You! Forever I’ll stand! Nothing compares to the promise I have in You!” – will permeate every heart that’s longing for something more in this life…aching for a love that will not let them go.
I’ve been DVRing Idol this season, but I must’ve missed that night. They sang it very well. That was interesting how they left “Jesus” out on the verse where it normally says, “My Jesus, My Comfort”, but hey, I’m amazed they even sang a song that acknowledges the Lord and His power. Great song by the way.
Cool that they sang the song for such a huge audience.
Ironic that they did so while vying for the opportunity to be one of America’s idols.
Last night was pretty cool. ZZ Top performed and did a good job. I guess George Michael is going on tour for the first time in 17 years? He actually sounded really good last night, but didn’t he get into some sort of trouble this year or last?
George Michael always sounds good. I didn’t watch the show, nor had I heard about him performing, but it’s on YouTube.
Actually, I thought he was off a bit, and he acknowledged after singing that he was fighting a cold & sounded rough/sick as he was talking to Seacrest. All in all though, one of the greatest voices of our generation. Shame his professional life has been impeded by his personal.
Bill, thanks for the link to George Michael’s performance. I’m going to see him in July and cannot wait. I’m crossing my fingers that he doesn’t fall off the wagon or have another “incident” before then!
around the three minute mark is the greatest moment in idol history…when ryan tries to high five a blind man.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6R3SpoqAP0
Wow. That clip was amazing. I’m going to watch it again.
Pants on the ground poodle
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbUnnkrnPwU
Singing My Way will get you killed
Bill, that article was pretty amazing. It all seems so fantastic. Maybe I’m part Filipino because I usually find myself wanting to shoot anyone who karaokes to My Way. I liked the line “and the country’s many Sinatra lovers … are practicing self-censorship out of percieved self-preservation”. Love it.
AMERICAN IDOL followed with 6 nominations; 24 received 5 nominations; THE SIMPSONS with 4 nominations;
I guess I can understand the mindset that says “I want to watch reality tv” (I just threw up in my mouth a little), but I don’t understand the sheer mathematics of these noms. I mean, I can certainly understand Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi, Ellen DeGeneres, Simon Cowell, and Ryan Seacrest each deserving an Emmy, but a special retroactive award for Brian Dunkleman? Come on.
Dunkleman did make an appearance on Tool Academy 3 judging a “talent” show
