What’s In Your Head?

I need to chronicle the little things I get stuck in my head. It’s usually lyrics, quotes, or musical ditties of some sort, but sometimes just noises or images. (Oh, and then there are the voices…) All are random, though they can usually be traced to something, and all should be shared because it’s important for you to understand why I yam what I yam (speech impediment, lip cancer and forearm tumors?).

This thread is very simple. And while it may or may not or may spark some bits of tangent discussion, it might still be amusing if you all play too. Essentially just post whatever you have stuck in your head for whatever reason. Do this now, do this in the future, forever and ever, amen.

For instance, as I type this, I have “Zombie” by the Cranberries (or maybe you sing it “Laundry,” as I do) playing over and over in that filling in my tooth. When will I learn to stop naming threads after songs? I can’t tell you how many times I come to my site and get the same songs stuck in my head because one of the threads has some sort of association in the title. So sorry if that happens to you too. But I’d like to know what else is rattling around in your attic.

  1. Real American — Hulk Hogan’s theme song

My folks gave me their old flag. They have a flag pole now, so they didn’t need this one. I installed the holder and hung it up out front. It looks very nice, but I think it’s rather… large. It’s very American. I appreciate it, and I do think it looks nice out front, but I think it’s just big for my little place. It kinda has the look of, hey, I just passed my citizenship exam!

So for the past couple days, when I see it out front, Hulk Hogan’s theme song plays in my head. I *am* a real American…

  2. Very sweet!!

  3. When I don’t have something else in my head, I usually have some concoction of my own banging out in there. Though unaccomplished in all related ways, I fancy myself a bit of a song writer — even if nearly all my tunes are destined to sit, unfinished — so I always have something of mine, old or new, playing out in my mind. Unfortunately what almost always accompanies it is rhythmic teeth grinding, which may have been contributing to my headaches for the past couple decades, and is certainly why my teeth are nubs.

  4. At around 3:00 am last night I couldn’t sleep.. OR get the Inspector Gadget theme song out of my head. Why? No Clue… How long did it stay? Oh.. it’s still there…
“doo doo doo doo do inspector gadget, doo doo doo doo doo DO DO DO! DO!”

  5. Real American is one of the bes songs ever recorded. I burned it to a cd for the bball team to come out to last year. They thought it was cheesy at first but it grew on them. they were upset when the pep band played cause they didn;t get real american.

trivia: without cheating who sang the song?

  6. Rick Derringer

  7. Walking around the arts festival in downtown Columbus I started humming “Downtown” well the only word in that song I know is Downtown… so my song went a little something like, “hmm hmm hmm hmmmm hmm hmm hmmmm hmm DOWNTOWN…” And now that I’m at home, the song is still there.

  8. Ugh. Bad song Mink. DIdn’t I tell you that song was a winding theme throughout a novel that I own half of (and maybe movie rights?) It’s on some commercial out now too… irritating… but yes, it does tend to get stuck….

  9. Oh. btw… my brother and I were trying to stump each other with ‘classics’ and I currently have C&C Music Factory in my head (and with it comes an odd memory of playing Barbies(?) Amy did you have that tape or something?)

  10. Believe it or not, all weekend I’ve been humming either Metallica’s, “I Disappear”, or my son’s show, Wonderpets, theme song, “Teamwork”. It’s kinda disturbing.

  11. Oh.. kids shows/videos are the worst… I used to do behavioral therapy with preschoolers… I’d randomly have songs from Blue’s Clues or Bear in the Big Blue House in my head…. and they never……. go……. away…….

  12. Jules…this one’s for you…

So I’m sitting here (listening to the Indian mafia outside) and watching the Tony Awards. They did a song from the Will Rogers Follies. Well, that’s kinda like Julie and my musical and we always sing the phase, “packing, unpacking we’re off to Altuna, tomorrow goodbye Altuna.” Well, now that little ditty is in my head, on repeat.

  13. I currently have C&C Music Factory in my head (and with it comes an odd memory of playing Barbies(?) Amy did you have that tape or something?)

Whoa hold on a sec….why take me down with you for your bad take in music. C&C Music factory….gimme some credit….I was probably playing New Kids on the Block :-)

  14. Oh.. kids shows/videos are the worst…

I agree…my ex’s son used to watch Spongebob alot..which is cool..until the kid taught me the theme song in 3 languages. So basically anytime is a good time to belt out the song. Don’t you worry Jules..I will teach you :-)

  15. My son Tyler watched Bugs Bunny over and over during the course of the weekend. Our favorite is “Bugs & Thugs” featuring “Rocky & Mugsy”. I can recite all the words to the scene where Bugs stuffs Rocky & Mugsy in the gas stove. Today I can’t get it out of my head. “Now, would I turn on the gas if my friend Rocky was in there?” “Eh, you might rabbit you might”. ” Would I throw a lighted match if my friend Rocky was in there?” Sigh.

    I’m done for today.

  16. Since I got hurt in LaCrosse on sunday I spent the rest of the day stuck inside being bored. So with my current MySpace obsession I found a gangsta looking Spongebob singing Mim’s This is Why I’m hot. So today I can’t get the image out of my head. It’s pretty cool…you should check it out :-)

  17. I have this crazy friend *cough cough* that changes her myspace pretty much weekly. At the moment it’s the cartoon Jem….complete with the theme song. I can’t stop singing “Jem, she’s truly outrageous”

I found a gangsta looking Spongebob singing Mim’s This is Why I’m hot.

That WAS awesome..but doesn’t beat Jem. OH! Did I just sell someone out? :0)

  18. Bibbidi-bobbido-bibbidi-bobbido-bibbidi-bobbido-boo. Cinderella is on round-the-clock at my house.

  19. Has anyone else ever seen this? My brother mentioned it to me today. We had a tape of random cartoons growing up, we watched this one a lot. “To the Vector goes the spoils”.

  20. Mary, I remember this, although it was never a favourite or anything…

  21. I can’t get “behind blue eyes” out of my head
i love the style of the song
ballad in two parts: a soft, melodic beginning, driven by finger-picking and gentle but powerful vocals, and then breaking out into a much harder, faster part about 2 minutes in, which eventually turns into a guitar jam that completes the song. (as described by wikipedia, and yes i did look up the song on wikipedia)

  22. It’s Thanksgiving so I had to get Alice’s Restaurant in before the day was up. It’s been in my head all day, so I really had no choice. It makes a weird background for Halo though…

    “Shrink, I wanna kill…”

  23. Ray Stevens:The Mississippi Squirrel Revival.
It’s been in my head all day long. Why?? No clue, But here is the song/ video for your entertainment…
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgFjLB4VYSU

(I won’t admit how much time I spent scrolling through youtube suggestions of his other songs looking for this video… I’d forgotten about Santa Clause is Watching You… ha)

  24. That’s a classic, Julie. That’s my fav Ray Stevens song. And now I’ve had it in my head too. That’s why this thread probably isn’t the best idea. It’s good to catalog, I guess, and you can always punish other readers if you don’t want to suffer alone…

  25. Ray Stevens:The Mississippi Squirrel Revival

Thanks Julie. Really enjoyed this one again…it’s been awhile. Made me smile.

  26. Every morning for the past handful of days I’ve woken up with The Shankill Butchers in my head.  I don’t know what I’ve been dreaming about, because the song is about some grisly stuff.  I’ve been listening to Sarah Jarosz this past week, and she does a cover of that song, so I guess the melody has really worked its way into my head.

  27. I’ve had the song “It’s My Party (and I’ll Cry If I Want To)” in my head all morning for absolutely no reason at all… but not the regular version, mind you… the Chipette version. I googled it and even found a youtube clip. Enjoy (and join me in my randomness)!

  28. Ever since I installed the CB in my kitchen I’ve had Eastbound and Down in my head.  Good song, but it gets old after a while.
