Read this comment in contextMan, Im so excited for you to have this – Im jealous. And for those of you too young/isolated to know,”Big Trouble in Little China” is one of the BEST 80s movies! There are SO MANY good quotes in this – heres my fav: “When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol’ Jack Burton always says at a time like that: “Have ya paid your dues, Jack?” “Yessir, the check is in the mail.”

Read this comment in contextwish I had more time to write on this
How we got here — yeah, you’re pretty close on all of it, imo. LOTS of high risk lending (heard on radio that some lenders gave mortgages to people WITH NO INCOME, NO JOBS! Incredible) , LOTS of irresponsible people “biting off more than they can chew”. ALOT of corruption on wallstreet and in the private sectors. Big greedy Gordon Geckos and sleezy speculators manipulating the system and peoples’ money to line their pockets.
How we fix it — I REALLY dont want a bailout that uses taxpayer money — OUR money — to save their big business butts. Let it crash and burn to ash, and the phoenix rise out of it. I know that will have a trickle down effect to all us average joes, but Im more afraid we wont see that money come back to us, and that bailing out these greedy pigs will only create the likihood that it will one day happen again. Sure, we need to make changes – responsible lending, control credit card companies and rates, TRANSPARENCY – the stockholders/lenders know/see EVERYTHING; the averages joe and regular Americans will be the ones to monitor what is going on w the money bc they will blow the whistle when something isnt right, no CEO parachutes. CANT use higher taxes, esp on income, bc that WILL set us into a depression. My concern is the “bailout plan” is really not going to do much aside from take our money, bc those slicksters on wallstreet will be steps ahead of any oversight committee, there will be a false sense of security that we’ll be caught if we fall, and mostly, bc as corrupt and greedy as these Gordon Gecko types are, sadly, our Congressmen aren’t any better. I heard there are earmarks now on this bailout bill to sway people to vote one way or another. Digusting. Let them crash and burn. We’ll climb out of it. By the way, I dont think the stock market has fallen below 11,000 during any of this. That the other thing – is it all really “that bad”???
And Obama is loving it. So is Pelosi. So long as this is going on, its HEAVY ammo for them to keep the Republicans from power at the election. Frankly, its all a mess – both parties. I follow politics pretty closely, and I find it very frustrating and digusting. Rented “Mr. Smith goes to Washington” the other day w Jimmy Stewart. 1937, I believe. Love it, and watched it again bc of this. Do so, if you havent. Sad how we’ve arrived where we are. That is my concern – “if nothing changes, nothing changes.” A bailout is just that – a bailout; nothing changes.
My (first) nickel.

Read this comment in contextsaw Def Leppard, Poison, and Cheap Trick at Riverbend last week. alot of fun. Cheap Trick sounded great and opened. Poison was okish, but the crowd, esp the women, loved them, namely due to Bret Michaels, who really cant sing. they did have alot of fire, which i like alot. DL was terrific, and gave a fabulous hour and a half show. had great lawn seats, and as usual, it got a bit rowdy out there, but nothing too crazy – just the wall to wall people for 5 hrs, its not for the claustophobic. REALLY nice being tall in those situations. overall, a nite of big fun.

Read this comment in contextFunny. Tell Shayna I got chased down the driveway by a goat after getting off the school bus. I outran it bc it couldnt run as well on gravel, but it chased me all the way into the garage and then proceded to ram its head repeatedly into the screen door. Evil creatures, which dont serve any real purpose in today’s America, aside from chasing little boys down driveways after school.

Read this comment in contextBut this one was an absolute beast-master
: — Yes, it was. It was mammoth, long and extremely heavy, made of old, high quality wood, and before any of you get impressed with my holding it up on end in the pic, you need to know that I am just steadying it as its resting against a support beam in the barn. No way I’m holding that up on my own. In fact, I’m unnerved in this pic holding it as I was. Even when Bill was helping with it before this pic, one slip and this thing wouldve eaten us alive and we couldve been seriously hurt. Would love to know how much it weighed. All in all, a very rewarding afternoon of hard work. The pic of the finished product doesnt do it justice – its a really nice fire ring, and didnt cost a dime. Btw Bill, I’m quite sore and my hands raw, as well.

Read this comment in contextCute.
So then, there is a second, larger and heavier piece. I got drafted to help out carrying this one as Darren was now on injured reserve and I was being harangued for not carrying the second, larger piece to the pile by myself. Bill and I started to carry it toward the pile, & I commented that it was still in decent shape and Bill may be able to use some of the wood inside the barn itself. Bill agrees, and decides we should reverse course and carry this heavy (getting heavier) piece of door, with a large surface area, INTO THE WIND, back to the barn. For a short period, you have these 2 Einsteins carrying the door open faced into a whipping wind before we leveled it out and made it in the barn. If not, we wouldve been blown back into the field. And Darren would still be laughing.
