Read this comment in contextCNN reported this today regarding Washington Mutual (largest bank failure)
“When WaMu failed and was seized by government regulators, Fishman had been on the job for just 17 days. However, he was contractually guaranteed $11.6 million in cash severance on top of the $7.5 million signing bonus he got for taking the job.
Basically, Fishman netted just under $20 million for 17 days of work, which is a pretty nice setup for the head of a collapsing corporation. (In Fishman’s defense, it’s tough to blame WaMu’s failure on his leadership alone; it seems highly unlikely that any CEO, however determined, could crash such a large thrift in just two weeks.)”

Read this comment in contextI listened to a radio program last week on this issue, and if what he said was true, the government pressed financial institutions to grant home loans to the poor and to the minorities regardless of income. In alot of cases, NO proof of income was even documented, but because they were Asian, Mexican, poor, or whatever, they would grant loans to these people. Some banks such as Chase, refused to do that b/c obviously it is bad business to grant loans just to meet cultural diversity benchmarks that the government created.
When I was getting ready to move to Mansfield last year, I went through a mortgage lender to look into buying a house. What surprised me was that when I was approved, I asked how much I was approved for, and he responded, “as much as you’d like.” Since when can someone be granted a home loan for as much as he wants just because he has a job? I couldn’t believe it.

Read this comment in contextI’ve been on this kick of eating smoked oysters lately. Dad turned me onto them years ago when we would have our New Year’s Eve get togethers with the Abele’s. For some reason I’ve been eating them about three times a week as a snack. If you can stand the smell, they are full of iron & protein. I eat ‘em with ketchup and crackers.

Read this comment in contextAh sarcasm. I take it I’m the last one on earth that knew about Uncrustables? Well, back to my point, they are good.
Posted By Darren on October 26, 2006 @ 1:20 pm
Read this comment in contextOk, I just discovered Smuckers Uncrustables at the grocery store. Those of you who haven’t heard of them, basically its just pb & jelly sandwiches with no crust and sealed around the edges in the form of a circle. No mess. I like to pop them in the toaster and have it heat the pb & jelly inside. YUM.

Read this comment in contextThat honey maple spread sounds good. I’m going to have to put that to the test. Sometimes I would toast a bagel and put pb on it instead of just plain toast and its especially good on a blueberry bagel.
This probably goes under favorite candy bars….but the latest crave for me are the Oreos with peanut butter cream. In fact, I’ve stopped buying them b/c if they’re in the house, the box is gone in only a few days, which is not a good thing.

Read this comment in contextYes, nothing has changed. I eat peanut butter on a daily basis. Preferably in the mornings on toast, but if no bread is around, a couple of spoonfuls will suffice. It definitely takes care of the stomach rumblings for a while and makes for a quick breakfast or early evening snack. Although, pb hot dogs sound gross. I cannot imagine combining pb with any type of “meat” product. However, I have made a discovery…peanut butter on pancakes with maple syrup.

Read this comment in contextThanks Mary. Besides, Stinky’s disqualified because she voted for the same name more than once. Plus you can’t second a vote based merely on spite. I’m pretty sure that’s a rule somewhere in some distant land.

Read this comment in contextTry saying “Twisp” five times real fast…almost impossible. Bill can’t name a cat Twisp if he cannot pronounce the name five times real fast. It’s a rule.

I agree with Darren’s suggestion of Puss and Boots. Very nice.
Since my vote was seconded (and the only one that was), it should make it to the finals.

You could name them based on where they’ll probably end up…like Kroger, Meijer, Giant Eagle and maybe name the other Hamburgler.
