I also meant to tape Ugly Betty (never seen it) this week — on at same time as Lost, I think — but I forgot.

Actually, Ugly Betty is on the same time as Earl/Office. It’s worth taping. Or watching and taping Earl/Office. Either way it works well.

Darren, just heard a radio ad for Jiff PB on the go. Guess they make little cups of PB so you can have it with you 24/7.

I think the cow with the white face looks like an Elmer. Since the cow with tag 3677 was mugging for the camera in two of the three photos, it’s name should be Paris.

Those earrings really aren’t doing anything for them. Can I bedazzle them? I think they’d really like it.

Oh, I like the Babe idea. Then when you talk to him you can say, “That’ll do pig. That’ll do.” Oh, and then, maybe he’ll make friends with a spider and the spider will weave messages to you in its web.

Congratulations, I’m so happy you found a place that’s perfect for you. I also like that it looks like you’re gonna have purplish walls in your dining room (ok, maybe they’re blue…I can’t tell).

You may not be able to get around the mutt issue either. When my parents had their place insured they came out and took pictures of the llamas and the dog. I’ll ask my parents who they use…although I guess Airedale’s aren’t considered high-risk…

Bill Said:

I’m not sure I understand why ridiculously large sunglasses are back in style.

I’m guilty of following the trends, but I kinda like the big sunglasses. And, more so than just b/c it’s trendy. They block a lot of light (hence why you’re wearing sunglasses). Remember a few years ago when skinny frames were in? Yeah, why wear sunglasses when the light’s gonna blind you anyway.

Mary Said:

I get tired of all of the hidden “messages” in films these days

My friends, as more and more people use Tivo and DVRs to watch their shows or go to the Internet or iTunes to download them we’re just gonna see more of this built into movies and TV shows. It’s a double-edged sword. Their advertising dollars pay for our shows, we like to watch our shows (for free) but we hate watching ads and turn to Tivo/DVR/Interwebs so those creative devils are forced to find other places to pimp their products/messages.

I’ll be back with more to say about

I also don’t understand why people care about what Hollywood think’s/drink’s/says/does/wears/etc.

But I just don’t have time right now (darn it, work gets in the way of everything!).

I know that by anytime I mention my musical favorites I am opening my self up for mockery… however what Bill said about the piano really struck a chord with me. I tend to gravitate towards artists that are piano heavy with their music.

Two beds and a coffee Machine by Savage Garden – The lyrics are a little stupid but I love the piano in this song. I saw them in concert and the best part was when one dude sat down and played the piano while the other sang.

I believe by Blessid Union of Souls – Love the piano and the fact that they say Lisa in the lyrics

February Song and America by Josh Groban – in addition to loving the piano line, it’s even better when he sits down, plays and sings. I have so much more respect for artists when then can actually play an instrument too.

Fallin’ by Alicia Keys

And mad props go to Diana Krall who pretty much is amazing playing every song she does. Julie and I saw the woman in concert this summer (and besides kinda be man-ish) and she tickled the ivories like no one I’ve ever seen.

First, my friend is not gay. You shouldn’t pass judgement on soneone until you’ve at least met them (except celebrities, you can pass judgement on them anytime).

Second, I was trying to suggest something easy and doable since, well, you said you’re lazy.

Third, I also suggested several other brilliant ideas the best of which was dressing up as a dude that works at Chipotle. That way you could pretend to be Latino for the day and get one of those awesome shirts that says I made the chips today.

I just want to warn people not to click the cross-dressing link first thing in the morning. Man, I did that before I had coffee this morning and it was almost to scary to handle. Or maybe it is just my strong detestation of arm pit hair

While condo hunting this morning we were driving south on Riverside Drive. As we were getting closer to the Bethel/Hayden Run & Riverside intersection I noticed all this white stuff in the road. We got stopped at the light at West Case & Riverside. To our left, on the Northeast corner there is a fountain. Some punks must have put laundry detergent or something in the fountain. It was everywhere. It looked like it does in the movies. At first it was really funny, then I felt bad for whomever had to clean it up. Happy Halloween.

I second Stinky’s laundry list of items Bill has a lot of for a straight man.

Not sure most of my Bill stories are worthy of posting although he did save my mom’s cat from a tree. He did the whole hero thing in the rain, climbing a ladder and everything. I’m pretty sure he even suffered some injury too when the cat latched onto his shoulder. Maybe he should think about being a fireman…

One of my other favorite Bill moments was when I literally fell on my face as we were walking out of Damon’s. I fell right in front of not only Bill, but this older couple walking in. The couple seemed genuinely concerned about my well being, Bill laughed. He did help me up though and tried to muffle his laugher as I did the walk of shame back to the car praying no one else saw my oh so graceful fall. On the way home I got lectured on wearing impractical high heels (I was more upset about ruining the cute pink ones I had been wearing and wondering if I could find another pair online). But my point is, he’ll laugh at you, but still help you (most times).

Another good thing about Bill is he buys/provides you with a lot of drinks and even stocks your favorite non-alcoholic, diet, non-caffeinated beverage in his fridge.

It should also be noted how extremely humble our friend Bill is. This recent IM conversation is a perfect example:

Bill: this thread just needs to be converted into a shine to my awesomeness
Me: hmmm…well that’s gonna be hard
Bill: thats what my site needs
Bill: more homage
Me: what else do you want me to write since you’re feeding me items?

Seeing how excited Clooney gets every time I walk through the door from being gone (whether it be a minute, a day or a week).

The smell of puppy breath.

The nervousness that you feel right before walking on stage, being on stage and having people laugh at you (not for being stupid but for actually being funny) and when they cheer during your curtain call.

The relief you feel after you pee when you’ve really had to go.

The moment after a good first kiss or date when you’re walking on cloud nine and think your fairy tale may come true this time. (I know this is extremely cheezy, but you asked.)

The sense of wonder you get when you look at something beautiful in nature (the moon, a flower, a sunset) and you know God is awesome.

The beauty of having a baby fall asleep in your arms.

The feeling you get after shopping and buying fabulous stuff like Kate Spade purses, sparkly jewelry or an amazing pair of shoes. (This last point is a total Lisa-ism, and yes, I know I sound silly.)

Funny you should post a cooking thread now. Within the last couple of weeks I’ve really been getting into cooking. While some of you giggle at the thought of me in the kitchen, I’ll have you know, I’m not that bad. I’m trying to eat healthy so I’ve been looking for low-cal, low-fat recipes that actually taste good. While I’ve encountered a few doozies, I found a recipe for corn chowder that is amazing and has only 152 calories and 2 grams fat per cup (makes about 8 cups).

1/2 cup diced onions
1 cup diced cooked potatoes (the recipe says peeled, but I like the peels. Also I leave them a little crunchy b/c they get mushy in the soup)
2 cups frozen or fresh corn
1 cup cream style corn
1 cup diced ham
1 can of reduced fat cream of mushroom soup
2 1/2 cups of skim milk
pepper to taste

Coat pan with non-stick, fat free cooking spray. Saute onions. Dump in remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Simmer, uncovered for 20 – 30 minutes.

For those of you who aren’t crazy about onions you can hardly taste them in the soup.

This thread has been picking on females a lot… here’s a few things I don’t understand about guys.

What is the obsession with bodily functions (belching, farting, etc.)?
How can guys play video games for hours, days on end? Sure I enjoy a good game every now or then but playing for that long? I just don’t get it.
Why do guys always want to fix things when you complain or vent about something? Is it hard to understand that sometimes we ladies just want some sympathy?

You’d think that after falling flat on my face while wearing heels and another time spraining my ankle (and breaking bottles of wine all over Andersons) would keep me from ever wearing heels again…but it hasn’t.

While I am adoring the ballet flat craze that Julie mentioned I still love my heels. And it’s not so much about competition as it is about finding that perfect finishing touch. I am a believer that accessories can make or break the outfit and the perfect shoe is the essential accessory. I love when I find the perfect pair of shoes to go with an outfit that was missing something before. It gives me a euphoric high every time I wear them.

And with that perfect shoe comes the confidence that Mary mentioned. And for that confidence, we’ll suffer a little pain (even falling on our faces once in a while).

Do I even need to ask?

To sum it up chick lit is basically the book version of chick flicks.

What perfect timing for this thread. I just got done taking some vacation days and spent most of my week off reading (eight books, yeah, I’m cool like that).

When I have to pick a book I usually lean towards the genre known as chick lit. But, before I get into my favorite books there, I have to mention probably my favorite book, The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hossenini. It tells the story of a young man growing up in Afganistan before the Taliban, fleeing the country when the Taliban invaded and establishing a new life in America. Extremely powerful.

If I’m in the mood for a classic I tend to gravitate towards Edith Wharton. I love the Age of Innocence and Summer. I also really like The Stranger by Albert Camus and The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne.

A few other good reads (on the serious side): The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd, The Wonder Spot by Melissa Banks (I LOVE this book) and The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde (If you like Jane Eyre, you’ll love this as the character time warps into the Jane Eyre story to solve a mystery).

Now time for chick lit…

When it come to serious chick lit, I love Jennifer Weiner(Good in Bed, In Her Shoes, Little Earthquakes and Goodnight Nobody). Right now I’m reading a book of short stories by her called The Guy Not Taken. I’m really enjoying it. Basically it tells various stories about the significant crossroads in womens’ lives.

I recently found a new author, Emily Giffin, that I adore. She only has three books out but her last, Baby Proof, is by far my favorite. It tells the story of a couple who agreed not to have kids then one of them changed their mind. It’s a beautiful love story about their relationship.

And I can’t end this post without mentioned two of my other favorite authors. If you need good light-hearted reading these ladies are for you.

Anything by Sophia Kinsella is hilarious. My favorites are her Confessions of a Shopaholic series. Maybe because I tend to identify with the main character a little too much. Before this series of books she wrote under the name Madeline Wickham, not nearly as good as her current writing. Maybe that’s why she changed her name??

I also really like Jane Green. My favorite book by her is probably Jemima J. Her books are great beach/vacation reads.

This past week my vacation reads mostly consisted of devouring a mystery series by Janet Evanovich. I think there are 13 or 14 books in the series (I only made it through 6). Every story is basically the same, the writing isn’t that great but for some reason, I’m hooked. I’d recommend the series if you were looking for a fun, easy read.

So I found a Wii tonight (if you’re looking for one the Walmart in Urbana had about eight more). What games do I need to get? I’m not much for the shoot-em-up games. I really like the Wii sports that came with the system. So, let me know how I need to spend my Christmas gift cards.
