It’s been a long time coming, but I think it’s time to address our favourite vocalists. We’ve given our preferences on actors and actresses, and broadly discussed movies, TV and music, but we need to go ahead and commit to a list of best singers.

I think part of the reason I haven’t started this thread before is because I know it’s going to be hard to draw the line and commit to an actual list, which is what I would like to see folks at least attempt to do. Of course this thread can turn into a dump for us to just randomly throw vocalists in and say, yeah, this person has a great voice. But try to make yourself commit to a list that says these are my personal favourites.

So for this thread in particular, let’s focus on male voices: who are your favourite male singers? They don’t necessarily have to be the best vocalist — they can be a fav “front man” or performer or whatever — but if you’re called out on it you’d better support your choices. Singers from any genre are game, so let’s hear it. If you’re really nerdy you can make separate lists for different kinds of music…

A thread for best female vocalists will follow eventually, but for now, give your props to the guys you sing along with on your radio.

So, here I am venturing out on my first attempt at posting a new topic…thank you for the applause.

I was traveling the last couple of days and encountered some of the strangest things at the airport.

During a layover in Cleveland, I passed at least five people singing out loud. Not like street…or should I say airport performer singing, these were people who were pretending to sing to themselves, but loud enough to catch the attention of others and casually glancing around to make sure they had an audience. Now, I’m a fan of singing, but some of these people should stick to singing in the privacy of their shower or car. I blame American Idol.

A catch-all thread for random thoughts may be a bad idea, but if it gets out of hand I can always pull the plug on it…

So generally this will be a junk drawer for randomness that *doesn’t* fit in existing threads & *doesn’t* have potential as threads on their own. So no slacking. Use the search bar to see if your comment fits somewhere else & don’t be a wuss if you have something new & good you really wanna post & you think it’ll work as a new topic. Or at the very least suggest it to me in the Topic Pool, which has received very little love pretty much all year. Coincidentally, I have two posts queued up that are straight from the Topic Pool. (Oh, there’s a queue, baby. Quagmire: “Does this look like a Q to you? How about now?”)

Well, I have a confession to make. I do not watch a whole lot of television to begin with, but these last two weeks I have not missed any of the audition shows for American Idol.  Granted, I tune in to watch someone make a complete idiot of themselves and/or to hear Simon totally insult someone, but still, I’m embarassed to admit that I do enjoy watching it.  Am I alone?

To those of you singing The Star Spangled Banner: just sing the darned song already. This isn’t American Idol. Do your country a favor and keep a steady tempo and don’t rewrite the melody we all know and cherish. We’re trying to sing along, remember.
